The week started off with a good first District meeting of 6. The sisters even made cookies! Everything still feels super slow. Before, when we didn’t have anything, we contacted. But now with the focus changing to working with members, it feels like we’re doing nothing. We did get a reference from the other missionaries that we’re excited for. A man from Uruguay, who was baptized with his family when he was 10, moved to New York and then lost contact with the church. He doesn’t know anything other than that he’s a member. We’re looking forward to teaching him and his family.
We did have a rockin’ missionary ward activity this week though! It was all centered on 1NE Chapter 8 https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/1-ne/8?lang=eng. We bought close to 300 feet of rope and strung it up door handle to window to chair throughout the church and the sisters made “the tree of life” from cardboard and paper. We blindfolded the people with neckties and sent them into the dark building with the only direction to “find the tree of life.” As they tried to find their way, we would try to distract them (great and spacious building) and get them to let go of the rope. I ended up leading one of the elders from Ponce 2 into the library and closed the door. He shouldn’t have let go of the iron rod! Once they reached the tree they got to pick off a piece of candy. The point was one, to help them individually strengthen “the Word of God” in their life and two, to give them the desire, as Lehi did in verse 12, to share the love that they have in their life (aka references)!!
Only a few people showed up, but all and all it was really good. And stringing up all that rope with all those knots and everything was so much fun. And now I have 300 feet of rope!
We have Zone Conference this Wednesday and transfers next Tuesday!
A missionary from our ward is coming home from Mexico this week. Everyone is going crazy. They rented out a bus so pretty much the whole ward can go to San Juan and pick him up and then they’re closing off their street and throwing a big party. Oh, and they decked out his room with a big TV and surround sound and bought him a Ford Explorer.
Mom, Dad, that’s going to be hard to beat, but I know you can do it (;
